Sundowns Face Esperance As CAF Champions League Semi-Final Heats Up

The race for continental supremacy has reached its climax as the semi-final fixtures of the CAF Champions League 2025/26 season have been confirmed following a gripping quarter-final stage.

South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns will take on Tunisia’s Esperance Sportive de Tunis in a high-stakes clash between two of Africa’s most consistent sides, while Morocco is assured of a finalist as FAR Rabat face off against RS Berkane in an all-Moroccan semi-final.

The last-four ties will be played over two legs in April, with each team aiming to secure a place in the final of Africa’s premier club competition.

Mamelodi Sundowns progressed to a fourth consecutive semi-final despite falling 2-0 away to Stade Malien in Bamako, having done enough in the first leg where they won 3-0 in Pretoria to advance 3-2 on aggregate.

Esperance Sportive de Tunis produced one of the standout results of the round after eliminating record champions Al Ahly in Cairo. The Tunisian side came from behind to win 3-2 on the night, sealing a 4-2 aggregate victory with a dramatic stoppage-time goal and boosting their hopes of a fifth continental title.

In another quarter-final, FAR Rabat ended the title defence of Pyramids FC. After a 1-1 draw in the first leg, FAR Rabat secured a 2-1 win in Cairo to progress 3-2 on aggregate.

RS Berkane booked their place in the semi-finals in dramatic fashion, scoring a late winner to defeat Al Hilal. With the tie level from the first leg, Berkane’s 93rd-minute strike earned a 1-0 victory and a 2-1 aggregate success.
