UPDF FC Part Ways With Coach Paul Kiwanuka

Uganda People’s Defence Forces Football Club (UPDF FC) has confirmed the departure of Head Coach Paul Kiwanuka, following the team’s poor run in the first round of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League season.

The Army side made the announcement on Tuesday, revealing that First Assistant Coach Kiwanuka has been relieved of his duties with immediate effect.

The club also confirmed that Defensive Coach Denis Oweka has equally been dismissed from the technical team.

“UPDF FC confirms that Head Coach Kiwanuka Paul and Defensive Coach Oweka Denis have been relieved of their duties with immediate effect,” the club statement partly read.

In the same communication, UPDF FC also unveiled new additions to their technical bench, appointing Musa Mudde as first assistant coach and Juma Nassur as the club’s new goalkeeping coach.

The shake-up comes after a challenging first round campaign for UPDF, who managed just three wins in 15 league matches, leaving them second from bottom with only 11 points.

With the second round of the 2025/26 season set to kick off next week, UPDF will be hoping the technical changes can inject fresh energy into the squad as they intensify their fight to avoid relegation.

UPDF FC will begin their second round journey at home on Friday, when they host Buhimba United Saints FC, in what promises to be a crucial fixture for the struggling Army side.
