UPL – Five Key Players Out As SC Villa Faces URA FC

The Uganda Premier League returns on Thursday, 11 December 2025, with two captivating fixtures as SC Villa look to bounce back against URA FC, while Entebbe UPPC host Express FC at the Bugonga Fisheries Ground.

SC Villa, whose seven-match unbeaten run was halted by Maroons last weekend, face a crucial test under the lights at the FUFA Stadium in Kadiba.

The defeat in Luzira denied the record champions a chance to keep close to new log leaders KCCA, and head coach Zeljko Kovacevic now tackles an even more complex challenge, an alarming shortage of key players.

Captain David Owori and midfielder Reagan Mpande are away with the national team in Morocco, while defenders Geoffrey Lubangakene, Kato Ssemayange, and winger Sula Matovu are suspended.

Lubangakene was shown red in Luzira, Ssemayange picked up a third yellow card, and Matovu completes the trio of absentees.

With Arnold Odong injured and Benard Tabu yet to be licensed, Kovacevic must improvise.

Midfield trio Tony Atukunda, Elvis Ngonde, and Misi Diego Ssemugera may be redeployed defensively, while Frank Mulimi is expected to fill the void at right back.

In attack, Patrick Kakande could finally secure his first start of the season, though Hassan Mubiru remains an option after his appearance last weekend.

Visitors URA FC have had a turbulent, stop-start campaign, managing only two victories and collecting just 11 points to sit ninth on the log.

Still under interim coach Edward Golola, the Tax Collectors will look to their dependable attacking unit of Nelson Ssenkatuka, Moses Aliro, Fred Amaku, and ex-Villa playmaker Nicholas Kabonge to exploit Villa’s depleted ranks.

Earlier in the evening, Entebbe UPPC FC will be eyeing a major statement when they battle seven-time champions Express FC at 4PM in Entebbe.
