UPL Preview: KCCA aim to rediscover spark against BUL

The spotlight returns to the Philip Omondi Stadium on Wednesday night as Kampala Capital City Authority FC (KCCA FC) host BUL FC in a mouth-watering Uganda Premier League Match Day 17 clash under the Lugogo floodlights.

With pressure mounting and rhythm fading, KCCA step onto familiar turf desperate to revive their campaign and restore confidence among the Kasasiro faithful.

KCCA have endured an inconsistent run that has slowed their momentum in the league.

The 13-time league champions have collected only one victory in their last five outings, a stretch that has left them sitting 6th on the table with 30 points.

However, Wednesday’s fixture presents an opportunity for a fresh start, and there is renewed belief around the camp following recent technical changes.

The arrival of Simeone Masaba, who previously served as BUL’s assistant coach, has sparked optimism, with many expecting his presence to add tactical sharpness and renewed structure.

Masaba has reunited with co-coach Brian Ssenyondo, with the pair sharing a successful working relationship during their time with Uganda’s U-17 Cubs, including their historic World Cup appearance in Qatar.

KCCA have also received a boost on the fitness front. Only striker Derrick Nsibambi remains unavailable, while Katenga and Gabriel have returned to full training.

Katenga made a substitute appearance in the previous match and could be considered for a starting role depending on final assessment.

However, BUL FC travel to Kampala with confidence and a growing belief that they can once again frustrate KCCA in their own backyard.

The Eastern Giants have made Lugogo an uncomfortable venue in recent seasons and will take motivation from last season’s win at the same ground.

They also come into this match on the back of an encouraging performance against league leaders Vipers, where they earned a draw.

BUL currently sit 8th on 20 points and know that another positive result could push them closer to the top half of the table.

The reverse fixture earlier in the season ended 2-1 in favour of KCCA, with Alex Yiga playing a key role in sealing the win. But Wednesday’s clash promises a different battle, with both sides carrying fresh motivation.
