UPL – Vipers Frustrated by Bottom-Placed Calvary in Goalless Draw

Uganda Premier League
Calvary 0–0 Vipers

Vipers SC were left ruing missed chances after being held to a stubborn 0–0 draw by Calvary FC at the Midigo Playgrounds in Yumbe on Tuesday afternoon.

The Venoms travelled without three influential figures, Allan Okello, Rogers Torach, and Hillary Mukundane who are currently in camp with the Uganda Cranes ahead of AFCON preparations.

The visitors’ afternoon grew more complicated when Abubakali Walusimbi limped off with an injury in the 17th minute, prompting an early introduction for Patrick Mbowa.

Moments later, Isaac Ogwang squandered a golden opportunity after opting to square the ball to Milton Karisa, only for the delivery to be intercepted with Karisa off balance.

Vipers came closest in the first period when Kevin Dasylva unleashed a powerful strike that rattled the crossbar after a sublime cross from Karim Watambala in the 30th minute.

Despite dominating proceedings, the Kitende-based side could not find a breakthrough before the interval.

At halftime, Vipers’ coach Ivan Minnaert rang the changes bringing on Gusto Mulongo and Enock Ssebagala for Isaac Ogwang and Usama Arafat to inject more attacking spark.

The adjustments nearly paid off late in the second half when Yunus Sentamu’s effort grazed the crossbar, agonizingly close to sealing the winner.

Calvary, however, displayed admirable resilience, defending with grit and discipline to earn only their second point of the campaign.

The draw keeps them rooted at the bottom of the standings, while Vipers remain second on 18 points, losing ground in their chase for top spot.

The Venoms will now shift focus to a crucial home fixture on Saturday, December 13, when they host a wounded BUL FC side at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
