Simba SC/Uganda Wildlife Authority (UWA FC) tightened their grip on top spot in the Buganda Regional League after a commanding 3-0 victory over title rivals Buwambo United on Sunday, February 15, at Namulonge Play Ground.
The league leaders delivered a composed and ruthless performance, with Reagan Tigan Kirumira breaking the deadlock to set the tone for a well-earned win.
Samuel Ssemugugu later doubled the advantage before Ejoku Enos Cyril sealed the emphatic result with a third goal to complete a memorable afternoon for Simba SC/UWA.
The crucial triumph pushed Uganda Wildlife Authority’s points tally to 36 after 15 matches, officially bringing the first round of the season to a close with UWA firmly in control of the title race.
For Buwambo United, the defeat was another blow in what has become an inconsistent spell.
The loss not only ended their hopes of closing in on the summit but also saw them drop to fourth place, having been just a single point behind UWA prior to the clash.
Elsewhere, fellow contenders Young Simba suffered a major setback after falling 1-0 to Masaka City, a defeat that snapped their impressive five-game winning run.
Their streak had included a sensational 12-goal demolition of struggling Super Eagles Lugongwe last weekend.
At the bottom end of the table, Super Eagles Lugongwe’s nightmare campaign continued as they were thrashed 6-1 by Nyendo FC. Despite the heavy scoreline, it was a slight improvement compared to their humiliating 12-1 loss to Young Simba in their previous outing.
Buikwe Red Star’s woes also deepened after they were beaten 2-0 by Wobulenzi United, while Kiboga United lost another relegation battle, going down 3-1 to Nantabulirwa FC.
However, Nantabulirwa’s victory was not enough to lift them out of danger, as Synergy’s earlier 2-0 win over Seeta United ensured the battle for survival remained tense.
Nantabulirwa FC now sits 13th, just two points above the relegation zone, with UG Sports Arena closely behind.
Kiboga United remains 14th with only four points, level with 15th-placed Buikwe Red Star, while Super Eagles Lugongwe stay rooted at the bottom with just two points, although they still have two games in hand.
