Uganda’s marathon sensation, Victor Kiplangat, has declared he is ready to battle tooth and nail to preserve his world title when the 2025 World Championships kick off in Tokyo from September 13–21.
The 25-year-old, who stormed to gold at the 2023 edition, returns as team skipper and the nation’s chief hope on the international stage.
Brimming with confidence, Kiplangat revealed that his training has been flawless and his mindset laser-focused ahead of the defense.

“I feel fit, sharp, and spiritually uplifted. God has carried me this far, and I believe He will do it again. I’m stepping onto that road to protect my crown,” he told journalists.
But this championship will carry more than just Kiplangat’s ambitions.
Uganda arrives in Japan having already broken new ground, fielding more women than men for the very first time in history.

Federation officials say this milestone not only reflects the rising strength of women’s athletics in the country but also signals the dawn of a generation determined to shake up the global order.
