UGANDA PREMEIR LEAGUE

Villa Chase First Win as Kitara Host Mbarara in Western Derby

The StarTimes Uganda Premier League serves up a thrilling Friday night menu featuring two blockbuster clashes, SC Villa vs Police FC and Kitara FC vs Mbarara City FC as the race for early-season momentum heats up.

At FUFA Stadium, Kadiba, record 17-time champions SC Villa find themselves under pressure after a sluggish start to the season.

The Jogoos are yet to register a win, having lost 2-1 to archrivals KCCA FC and drawn 1-1 with new boys Entebbe UPPC.

Head coach Zeljko Kovacevic will be counting on his attacking quartet of Frank Ssebuufu, Charles Lwanga, Hassan Mubiru, and Najib Iga to finally spark Villa’s campaign to life.

The return of home fans, thanks to the reinstated home-and-away league format adds another layer of motivation for the struggling giants.

Their opponents, Police FC, have made a bright start to the season, sitting fifth with five points from three matches. The Cops are unbeaten so far and will look to extend that run against a side they have frustrated in recent years.

Adding extra spice to the fixture are Charles Bbale and Umar Kasumba, both former SC Villa forwards now leading the line for Police, determined to make their old club pay.

The last meeting between the two sides ended in a 1-1 stalemate at Wankulukuku, with both goals coming from penalties, Patrick Kakande for Villa and Brian Obedi for Police.

Head-to-Head Snapshot

Up north in Hoima City, The Royals Park will come alive as Kitara FC lock horns with Mbarara City FC in a highly anticipated western derby.

Kitara, known for their passionate home support, will look to make The Royals Park a fortress once again, while the Ankole Lions aim to silence the home crowd and steal the bragging rights.

The weekend continues on Saturday with Entebbe UPPC FC hosting NEC FC under the Bugonga lights, while the much-awaited clash between Vipers SC and UPDF FC at Kitende has been postponed.
