Vipers Pull Out of Double-Header as SC Villa, KCCA and Kitara Stand Ready

Uganda Premier League champions Vipers SC have confirmed they will not take part in this Saturday’s highly-anticipated double-header at Mandela National Stadium, throwing the build-up into turmoil.

The club has on Thursday issued a statement declaring their withdrawal from the fixture against Kitara FC, in protest of the newly introduced three-round league format—a system they, along with SC Villa and NEC FC, have openly rejected.

The no-show at the official pre-match press conference earlier in the day had already raised eyebrows, but the club’s announcement has now solidified their defiance.

Meanwhile, SC Villa made their intentions clear by attending the presser, with head coach Kovacevic Zeljko and captain David Owori stressing their readiness to face KCCA FC in the second match of the double-header.

The Kasasiro Boys, represented by co-head coach Brian Ssenyondo and captain Charles Lukwago, assured fans of their preparedness for the clash.

Kitara FC also had their voice at the table, represented by assistant coach George William Lutalo, signaling their willingness to go toe-to-toe with the champions who have now pulled out.

The development leaves Saturday’s football festival hanging in the balance, with fans left to wonder how FUFA will respond to the reigning champions’ bold decision.
