Vipers SC Cruise Past Police FC to Tighten Grip on UPL Summit

Vipers SC underlined their title credentials with a ruthless 4-1 dismantling of Police FC in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League match-day 14 clash played on Tuesday night at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The commanding triumph propelled the Venoms to 33 points, opening further daylight at the top of the standings, while Police FC remained on 27 points and slipped to third place.

The contest began on a measured note, with both sides testing each other cautiously.

Police FC threatened through Brian James Obedi, while Vipers’ Ashiraf Mandela also came close, but neither found an early breakthrough.

As the half progressed, Vipers steadily took control of proceedings. Their pressure paid off in the 32nd minute when skipper Milton Karisa calmly converted Karim Watambala’s inch-perfect pass to ignite celebrations in Kitende.

Barely five minutes later, Watambala turned scorer himself, his effort ricocheting off the crossbar and clearly crossing the goal line to double the advantage and leave Police reeling.

Vipers’ dominance was emphatically capped before the interval when Chukwuma Odili rose highest to power home a towering header from Usama Arafat’s delivery, sending the hosts into the break with a commanding 3-0 cushion.

Police showed brief signs of a comeback shortly after the restart as Said Kyeyune found the net to reduce the deficit. However, the Venoms quickly regained their composure and dictated the tempo, limiting their visitors to half chances.

The introduction of Yunus Sentamu injected renewed urgency into Vipers’ attack, and his influence was felt in the 73rd minute when his well-weighted delivery was finished off by Usama Arafat to restore the three-goal advantage and effectively settle the contest.

Arafat’s all-round display, marked by intelligent movement and consistent threat, earned him the Man of the Match accolade.

Vipers’ bench once again proved decisive, with tactical changes maintaining the team’s intensity and underlining the squad’s depth as they comfortably saw out the game.

The league leaders will next host Buhimba United Saints at Kitende on January 30, while Police FC face a tough away assignment against URA FC at Hamz Stadium on January 31.

Elsewhere on match day 14, NEC FC claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over Buhimba United Saints in Hoima, Calvary FC and URA FC played out a draw in Midigo, Lugazi FC edged BUL FC 2-1 in Najjembe, Entebbe UPPC and Maroons FC shared a goalless stalemate in Bugonga, and KCCA FC ran riot with a 4-0 win over UPDF FC at Lugogo.

Match-day 14 action continues on Wednesday, January 28, with Kitara FC hosting Express FC at Royals Park, Butema (4:00 pm), and SC Villa welcoming Mbarara City FC under the lights at FUFA Kadiba Stadium (8:00 pm).
