Vipers Sports Club have set the stage for what promises to be a defining showdown as they lock horns with Zambia’s Power Dynamos in the second preliminary round of the CAF Champions League.
The Ugandan giants booked their passage with a composed 2–0 aggregate triumph over Namibia’s African Stars, sealing the deal with a razor-sharp 1–0 victory at a packed St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende on Saturday night.
The calm efficiency of the performance stirred echoes of 2022/23, when Vipers stunned continental heavyweights TP Mazembe to storm into the groups for the very first time.

For Power Dynamos, they survived a bruising encounter with Ivorian aristocrats ASEC Mimosas, edging them 5–4 in a nerve-shredding penalty shootout after the two-legged duel ended 1–1 on aggregate.
Midfield craftsman Chifundo Mphasi etched his name into Dynamos’ folklore by burying the decisive spot kick, moments after Souleymane Fofana had dragged ASEC back into contention.
The chessboard is now set. Vipers will host the opening leg between October 17–19 at Kitende, where their fervent supporters are expected to roar them on with venomous passion, before embarking on a perilous journey to Zambia for the decider a week later.
