Waibi And Ssematimba Join Kizza At Nairobi United

NEC FC have suffered a double transfer blow after Charles Waibi and Titus Ssematimba completed moves to Kenyan Premier League side Nairobi United FC, Swift Sports Uganda has reliably learnt.

Nairobi United have moved swiftly in the market, finalising deals for the two Ugandan players shortly after securing the signature of left-back Mustafa Kizza in the ongoing transfer window, further underlining their intent to reinforce the squad.

Waibi only linked up with NEC at the start of the current campaign from Kigezi Homeboyz, where he enjoyed a productive three-season spell.

During his time in Kabale, the creative attacker registered 14 goals and an impressive 25 assists, performances that earned him a move to the Jinja-based side.

His quality was evident on the continental stage as he found the net against Nairobi United in last year’s CAF Confederation Cup second-leg encounter in Kenya, a match that ended in a 1-1 draw.

Ssematimba also arrived at NEC at the beginning of the season after a brief stay at Kitara FC, having previously turned out for Wakiso Giants.

The versatile midfielder brings international exposure, having spent a short loan spell with Al Dahra in the United Arab Emirates’ third division early last year.

The player first caught the spotlight during his formative years with Black Star Masanafu FC and later at St. Lawrence University, featuring prominently in the Kampala Regional League and the University Football League.

Nairobi United, who knocked NEC FC out of this season’s CAF Confederation Cup, currently sit ninth on the Kenyan Premier League standings with 19 points and will hope the arrival of the Ugandan duo adds fresh impetus to their campaign.
