Vipers SC returned to winning ways on Thursday afternoon, clinching a crucial 1-0 triumph over Lugazi FC at the St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.
The much-needed three points came courtesy of a spectacular strike by Karim Watambala, who made an emphatic return from suspension to decide the encounter.
The midfielder broke the deadlock in the 66th minute, unleashing a powerful effort from distance that left Lugazi’s custodian Juma Mutebi with no chance.
The solo effort not only sealed Vipers’ 16th victory of the campaign but also helped them recover from last week’s setback against SC Villa.
This important result sees the Venoms reassert their authority at the summit of the StarTimes Uganda Premier League standings, now sitting on 52 points, five clear of the chasing pack.

Elsewhere, Soltilo Bright Stars responded impressively following their recent 5-0 thrashing by KCCA, dispatching Police FC with a confident 3-1 win.
It was captain Nelson Senkatuka who took center stage, bagging two goals in the first half to steer his side to maximum points.
Midfielder Noordin Bunjo set the tone early, taking advantage of a defensive miscue by Adewale Bajo to open the scoring inside seven minutes.
Senkatuka then nodded in a perfect delivery from Innocent Kitimbo barely two minutes later to make it 2-0.
The skipper struck again from 12 yards in the 31st minute after being brought down inside the area, capping off an electric first half.
Although Daniel Jakony pulled one back for Police midway through the second period, it proved too little too late.
League action resumes on Friday with more teams looking to shift the momentum in their favor as the title race intensifies.
