Defending champions Buddu’s reign in the 2025 Masaza Cup has come to a shocking halt, after bowing out at the group stage for the first time in over a decade.
Their hopes were crushed on Saturday 30, August, following a dramatic 1-0 defeat to Ssese at the Lutoboka Ssaza Ground.
The decisive moment came deep into stoppage time when Alaphat Muyanja netted a last-gasp winner that handed Ssese a memorable triumph and sealed Buddu’s fate.

The defeat leaves Buddu stranded on nine points, meaning they cannot catch up with the leading pack regardless of their last fixture against Busujju.
For Ssese, the historic victory breathes new life into their campaign as they eye a first quarterfinal berth since 2021.

The islanders are now level on 15 points with Buluuli and Busujju, all vying for the top two slots in the highly competitive Bulange group.
Buluuli, who boast a superior goal difference of +5, hold the advantage with two games still in hand against Busiro and Gomba. Busujju sits second, while Ssese occupies third place having played one more match.
Bulange Group Table
- Buluuli – 15 pts (GD +5, 8 GP)
- Busujju – 15 pts (GD +1, 9 GP)
- Ssese – 15 pts (GD 0, 9 GP)
- Gomba – 9 pts (GD 0, 9 GP)
- Buddu – 9 pts (GD -3, 9 GP)
- Busiro – 8 pts (GD -3, 8 GP)
Elsewhere, in the Muganzirwazza group, Kabula edged Butambala 1-0 thanks to a first-half strike from Ronald Tulyamusima. The result confirmed Butambala’s elimination as they remain rooted at the bottom with five points. Kabula, meanwhile, stays fourth but have now closed in on third-placed Kkooki.
