The fight for promotion to the FUFA Big League intensified in the Buganda Regional League after table leaders Buwambo United dropped crucial points, allowing their closest pursuers to close the gap.
Buwambo United were held to a frustrating goalless draw at home by Wobulenzi United on Sunday, January 25, a result that opened the door for challengers Young Simba FC and Simba/Uganda Wildlife Authority FC to make ground.
At Bombo Military Barracks, Young Simba delivered a composed performance to defeat Kajjansi United 2–0. Goals from Steven Magala and Arnold Ajuna earned the visitors maximum points, lifting them to 25 points, level with Buwambo United at the summit of the table.
Simba/UWA FC also kept pace with the leaders after edging Kiboga United 1–0 at Kiboga Ssaza Ground. Jorram Ogena struck the decisive goal in a tightly contested encounter to keep Simba firmly in the promotion conversation.
With twelve rounds played, the title race is finely balanced, as only three points separate the top three sides. Kira United remain firmly in the mix after a narrow 1–0 victory over Manyangwa FC, leaving them just two points off third place.
Elsewhere on Match Day 15, Synergy FC recorded an emphatic 4–0 win over Nyendo FC, while Masaka City SC ran riot with a 6–0 demolition of Super Eagles Lugongwe.
Buikwe Red Stars and Seeta United shared the spoils in a 2–2 draw, and Uganda Sports Arena were held to a 0–0 stalemate by Nantabulirwa FC.
The Buganda Regional League action continues on Tuesday, January 27, with two rescheduled fixtures on the cards.
Super Eagles Lugongwe will host Kiboga United at Ntunda Primary School in Kyankwanzi, while Uganda Sports Arena welcome Nyendo FC at Ntenjeru Ssaza Ground.
