It was a baptism of fire for Entebbe UPPC in their first-ever top-flight outing, as fellow debutants Buhimba United Saints edged them 1-0 at the lakeside Fisheries Training Institute playground.
The difference came early when seasoned forward John Wesley Kisakye showcased his poacher’s instinct in the 15th minute, coolly steering the ball past Rogers Omedwa to put the visitors ahead.
Entebbe UPPC dominated possession, dictating tempo through midfield generals Julius Poloto, Hassan Ssenyonjo, and Issa Bugembe.
Yet, despite their dominance, the finishing touch deserted them. Steven Munguchi’s deflected strike in the 20th minute and Poloto’s glancing header after the restart came closest, but Buhimba’s keeper Jamil Kiyimba stood tall, pulling off sharp stops to frustrate the hosts.
The introduction of crowd-favourite Samuel Junior Kawawa before halftime added energy and urgency.
His link-up with Noordin Bunjo carved openings, but Kawawa’s shots either lacked precision or met Kiyimba’s safe hands.
His spectacular overhead attempt in the dying minutes summed up Entebbe’s evening br, ave, ambitious, but ultimately fruitless.
On the other end, Buhimba leaned on grit. Skipper Maxwell Owachigiu marshaled the backline with authority, while midfielders Edson Agondeze and Solomon Akodi broke up play with relentless tackles. A single booking for Agondeze was the only blemish on an otherwise disciplined defensive shift.
