The 2025/26 FUFA Premier League opened with drama, grit and moments of brilliance as Kitara were held to a 1-1 draw by KCCA at Royals Park in Butema on Friday evening.
Emmanuel Wasswa gave the Royals a dream start when he headed home inside the opening five minutes, punishing the visitors’ poor defending and sending the home fans into early celebration.
Kitara pushed for more with Herbert Achayi winning a promising free kick that Joel Sserunjogi came close to converting, while Sammy Ssebaduka’s first-half effort lacked the power to beat the goalkeeper.
KCCA however showed resilience, and with ten minutes to play, Sharifu Ssengendo struck a sweet left-footed finish that silenced the Butema crowd and secured a crucial point for the Kasasiro Boys.

The result marked a decent return for KCCA coach Brian Ssenyondo on his first visit back to a club he previously guided to Uganda Cup glory before his departure.
The Kasasiro Boys will now turn their attention to the Kampala Derby against SC Villa on October 4 at Mandela National Stadium, while Kitara prepare for a showdown with Vipers on the same day and at the same venue.
Elsewhere, newly promoted Buhimba United Saints made a statement with a 1-0 win over fellow debutants Entebbe UPPC thanks to John Wesley Kisakye’s decisive strike at the lakeside Fisheries grounds.
At Lugazi, the hosts came from behind to overpower Calvary FC 3-1 in front of their jubilant fans, with goals from Paul Wasswa, Sharif Saaka and Ashiraf Mulindi sealing an impressive comeback victory.
Police FC and Mbarara City settled for a 1-1 draw in a tightly contested duel, while BUL and URA played out a goalless stalemate in Jinja.
