The 2023 champions West Nile were held to a barren draw by Bunyoro in the first leg of their FUFA Drum quarterfinal clash played on Saturday at Royals Park in Butema.
In a contest that promised intensity but delivered little in terms of clear-cut chances, both provinces struggled to break each other down, settling for a goalless stalemate that leaves the tie finely poised ahead of the return leg.
With everything still to play for, Bunyoro will now make the trip to West Nile on Saturday, March 28, for the decisive second leg, where a place in the semifinals will be at stake.
Elsewhere, 2019 champions Acholi were forced to share spoils with Busoga following a 1-1 draw at Booma Grounds. Busoga drew first blood through Dickson Matama, but Brian James Obedi responded to ensure Acholi remained firmly in the contest heading into the reverse fixture.
The quarterfinal action continues on Sunday, March 22, as Teso hosts Lango in what promises to be a thrilling encounter, while record champions Buganda will square off with Tooro in another mouthwatering fixture.
The FUFA Drum, a province-based competition that celebrates Uganda’s rich cultural heritage, continues to grow in stature. This year’s edition has attracted significant corporate backing, with sponsors such as Rock Boom, MTN, and Nile Special drawn by the ever-increasing fan engagement across the country.
