Struggling giants Express FC will be eager to end their frustrating winless run when they take on city rivals URA FC in a highly anticipated Nakivubo derby on Saturday night.
The match at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo comes at a turbulent moment for the Red Eagles, who are still reeling from the suspension of club CEO Ashraf Miiro and central defender Ashraf Mbaziira over alleged match-fixing.
Mbaziira’s absence leaves a major gap in defence for coach Jimmy Kintu, who is already under pressure to turn around the club’s poor form. Express have managed just one victory in their last eleven league matches and arrive for the derby following a heavy 3-0 defeat to KCCA FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo.
Meanwhile, the Tax Collectors appear to have regained stability under coach Hussein Mbalangu. URA head into the contest unbeaten in their last seven league fixtures, winning three and drawing four to climb the standings.
With momentum on their side, URA will approach the derby with confidence, although Express will hope their attacking options including Marvin Nyanzi, John Asiimwe and Kenneth Kimera can provide the spark needed to revive their season.
Only two points separate the two Kampala sides in the table. URA occupy 10th place with 22 points, while Express sit just below them in 11th with 20 points after the same number of games.
Elsewhere, KCCA FC travel to Najjembe to face Lugazi FC, while leaders Vipers SC host Calvary FC at St. Mary’s Stadium Kitende.
In other fixtures, record champions SC Villa visit Entebbe UPPC at Fisheries Ground in Bugonga, while Maroons FC host UPDF FC at the Prisons Grounds in Luzira.
