Hamidu Kibirango Aims to Lead CATDA FC to Historic Uganda Cup Round of 16

Kampala Regional League giants CATDA FC are set to battle defending champions Kitara FC in a thrilling Uganda Cup round of 32 clash on Thursday, February 20.

With the venue shifted from Kakungulu Memorial School Ground in Kibuli to Coffee Grounds in Bugolobi, all eyes will be on CATDA FC head coach Hamidu Kibirango as he seeks to make history with his resilient squad.

Speaking exclusively to Xavi Sports Media, the former Kyetume FC tactician expressed his confidence ahead of the high-stakes encounter, highlighting his faith in his players.

“The team is in excellent shape. We have trained well and are prepared to fight for a positive result,” Kibirango stated. “We shall miss Nabutono Martin, who is recovering from tetanus at Rosewell Hospital, but the rest of the squad is fit and ready.”

Despite facing a formidable Kitara FC side, Kibirango remains unfazed, assuring fans that his team is capable of overcoming any opponent. “Yes, Kitara is the defending champion, but we are ready for any challenge that comes our way.”

A seasoned tactician, Kibirango boasts coaching stints at Kyetume FC, Kireka UTD in FUFA Big League, Bugerere Saza, and Kyaggwe Saza, in addition to his playing days at URA FC.

Since taking charge at CATDA FC, he has masterminded a remarkable unbeaten run, guiding the club to 23 points from 11 league games in the first round.

CATDA FC’s road to the round of 32 has been nothing short of spectacular. They kicked off their campaign with a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Well Spring FC in the first preliminary round before dismantling Nawanku FC 6-0 in the second preliminary round.

In the subsequent stages, they brushed aside Wembley FC with a commanding 3-0 win before cruising past Mawokota UTD by the same margin in the round of 64.

Defending champions Kitara FC, on the other hand, booked their place in this stage after overcoming Young Simba FC in the round of 64.

With momentum on their side and the hunger to make history, CATDA FC will be looking to defy the odds and secure a place in the prestigious Uganda Cup Round of 16.
