The 2025 USSSA Boys’ Football Championship is heating up, with Jinja Progressive Academy (JIPRA) and Bukedea Comprehensive School punching their tickets to the semi-finals after delivering high-octane performances on Monday in Ngora.
JIPRA kicked off the day’s action with a gritty 1-0 win over Mentor SS from Lira in a tightly contested battle at Ngora High School.
Uganda U-17 captain Richard Okello rose to the occasion, scoring the game’s lone goal and steering his side into the last four with a captain’s performance.
This latest win adds to JIPRA’s remarkable form in the knockout rounds, having stunned reigning champions St Julian High School 3-1 in the previous round.
That match featured a brace from Simon Achiidi and a goal from Asuman Kayondo, while St Julian’s only reply came via James Ssekate.
Later in the day, Bukedea Comprehensive School engaged in a dramatic thriller with Kyadondo SS that was ultimately decided on penalties.
After Godfrey Ssekibengo, Bukedea’s captain and a URA FC player gave his side an early lead, Kyadondo forced a 1-1 draw in regular time, setting up a tense shootout.
With nerves running high, Bukedea edged the shootout 8-7 to clinch their second penalty shootout win of the tournament, having previously defeated Mvara SS on spot-kicks in the round of 32.
Attention now shifts to the remaining quarter-final ties as giants St Mary’s Kitende face Kibuli SS, while Buddo SS takes on Uganda Martyrs Lubaga in a battle of top-tier schools. The final semi-final picture will be complete once those showdowns are settled.
