The thunder of rally engines, the sharp scent of burnt rubber, and the growing anticipation of high-speed action had already gripped Uganda’s motorsport fraternity long before official confirmation arrived. For weeks, speculation swirled among fans, crews, and officials about who would step forward to back the 2026 season.
That wait has now ended in emphatic fashion, with KCB Bank Uganda unveiling a massive UGX 560 million sponsorship to secure naming rights for the entire National Rally Championship calendar, instantly injecting new life into the sport and setting the stage for what promises to be a thrilling campaign.
The announcement, made at the bank’s headquarters in Lugogo, was more than just a financial boost—it was a statement of intent. Confidence surged across the paddock as teams, drivers, and fans embraced the renewed momentum, with optimism spreading as quickly as dust on a rally stage.
Managing Director Edgar Byamah officially handed over a symbolic cheque to Jimmy Akena, president of the Federation of Motorsport Clubs of Uganda, in a gesture that signaled a fresh chapter for Ugandan rallying—one defined by stronger backing and heightened ambition.
With the sponsorship secured, attention now turns to the season opener set for March 27–28 in Mbale, where the Motorcycle and Rally Club Mbale will host an event marking the rally’s long-awaited return after eight years. The town is expected to transform into a high-speed arena, where dust fills the air, corners test precision, and every stretch of road challenges both machine and driver.
A total of 34 crews have confirmed participation, each entering with confidence but fully aware of rallying’s unpredictable nature. The entry list boasts some of the sport’s biggest names, including fan favorite Duncan Mubiru, whose daring driving style continues to thrill spectators, and reigning African champion Yasin Nasser, who returns with speed and authority.
Rwanda’s Queen Kalimpinya adds both elegance and competitiveness to the field, while multiple-time champion Ronald Ssebuguzi brings invaluable experience that could prove decisive on Mbale’s demanding terrain.
Beyond the established stars, the rally also presents an opportunity for emerging drivers to step into the spotlight, challenge the hierarchy, and announce themselves on a bigger stage. With improved backing and a deeper field of competitors, the 2026 season is shaping up to deliver intense rivalries, breakthrough performances, and nonstop excitement for fans.
