KCCA Edge Police to Seal Revenge at Lugogo

KCCA FC 2-1 Police FC

KCCA FC returned to winning ways and settled old scores with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph over Police FC in a Uganda Premier League match played at Phillip Omondi Stadium on Friday.

The Lugogo-based side avenged their earlier 2-0 defeat to the Cops this season with a determined performance that saw them control large spells of the encounter.

KCCA began the contest brightly, probing the Police defence through the lively duo of Joel Sserunjogi and Ivan Ahimbisibwe.

Despite the hosts’ early pressure, Police threatened mainly through set pieces, but goalkeeper Mugolofa remained alert to keep them at bay.

The breakthrough arrived in the 16th minute when Herbert Achai unleashed a free-kick that rattled the crossbar before the referee awarded the goal after a brief scramble in the box.

KCCA extended their advantage in the 30th minute. Ivan Ahimbisibwe delivered a precise pass that found Said Mayanja, who calmly slotted home to make it 2-0.

Police responded almost immediately as Lawrence Tezikya pulled one back just two minutes later, finishing off a swift move to keep the visitors within touching distance.

The hosts suffered a setback when midfielder Gavin Kizito picked up an injury and was replaced by Sammy Ssebaduka before halftime.

After the break, both teams made several tactical adjustments as the game grew increasingly competitive. Police thought they had a chance to level matters in the 53rd minute when they appealed for a penalty, but the referee waved away their claims.

KCCA managed the closing stages well despite mounting pressure from the visitors to secure all three points.

Midfielder Brian Jjara was named Man of the Match after delivering a commanding display in the centre of the park.

The victory lifts KCCA FC to third place on 39 points, just one behind Kitara FC and two adrift of leaders Vipers SC. Meanwhile, Police FC remain sixth with 32 points.

Next, Police will host SC Villa on March 10, while KCCA face city rivals Express FC on March 11.

League action continues on Saturday with Entebbe UPPC taking on URA FC, Maroons FC hosting Buhimba United Saints, Mbarara City FC facing Vipers SC, and SC Villa clashing with Express FC.
