KCCA vs NEC: Ssenyondo Confident as Kasasiro Begin Title Hunt

KCCA co-head coach Brian Ssenyondo has issued a strong statement of intent ahead of the second round of the Uganda Premier League, describing every remaining match as a final as the Kasasiro Boys push to end their long trophy drought.

The 13-time league champions return to action with a tricky Lugogo derby against NEC FC on Friday February 13, 2026, under the lights at MTN Omondi Stadium.

KCCA currently sit on 30 points, five behind second-placed Kitara FC and six adrift of leaders Vipers SC, meaning any further dropped points could seriously dent their title hopes.

“We have 15 finals and if we win all of them, it means we will be champions at the end of the season,” Ssenyondo said during his pre-match press briefing.

Ssenyondo admitted that the end of the first round was not ideal for his side, but he believes they have an opportunity to correct their course and begin the second round with momentum.

“It is a tough game but we want to come back stronger after what happened towards the end of the first round and start on a high note,” he explained.

NEC have been one of the busiest sides in the current transfer window, reportedly adding several new faces to their squad.

Among the players believed to have joined the club are Richard Basangwa, Muhammad Ssenoga, Rashid Kawawa, Tony Atukunda and Hakim Wandera.

With the new signings, KCCA may not know what kind of NEC side they will face, but Ssenyondo insists his focus remains on his own team rather than speculation about NEC’s lineup.

“We are not sure of the team they will put out because they have made some additions but we look at ourselves and we shall aim to play well and try to win,” he added.

KCCA head into the contest with confidence after winning the reverse fixture 2-1, where Said Mayanja scored both goals.

Another victory would mean KCCA complete their first-ever league double over NEC, an achievement that would further boost their title pursuit.

NEC head coach Badru Kaddu, who once worked at KCCA during the club’s most dominant spell under Mike Mutebi, will also be under pressure to deliver.

Kaddu must decide whether to immediately trust the new acquisitions or stick with his regular squad as NEC seek to improve their campaign.

NEC finished the first round poorly, collecting only 20 points and currently sit 7th on the table, leaving them desperate for a stronger second-round performance.
