Kenya Fulfils CAF Hosting Fee for AFCON 2027

The Government of the Republic of Kenya has officially settled its financial commitment to the Confederation of African Football (CAF), marking a significant milestone in preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations.

Kenya, alongside Uganda and Tanzania, is set to co-host the continental showpiece. Each nation was required to remit a hosting fee of $30 million. While Uganda and Tanzania had already met their obligations, Kenya’s delay had raised concerns, especially with CAF setting March 30 as the final deadline.

Confirming the development, Kenya’s Sports Cabinet Secretary Salim Mvurya announced that the payment has now been completed, signaling the country’s readiness to move forward with the next phase of preparations.

“I’m pleased to confirm that Kenya has fulfilled its financial obligation to CAF regarding the hosting fee. We now shift focus to other critical aspects of readiness,” he stated.

The payment brings relief across the East African region, where uncertainty had begun to grow over Kenya’s status in the joint hosting arrangement. With this hurdle cleared, attention now turns fully to infrastructure and logistical readiness.

A recent CAF inspection conducted in February highlighted several areas requiring urgent attention, including stadium upgrades, training facilities, transport networks, healthcare services, and other essential infrastructure.

CAF President Patrice Motsepe recently reaffirmed that the tournament will proceed as scheduled, underlining confidence in the host nations’ commitment. He also revealed plans to visit Kenya in May as part of ongoing oversight efforts.

Meanwhile, another CAF inspection tour is scheduled for August, where progress across all three countries will be reassessed.
