Kitara Seek Summit as UPL Action Heats Up

The race for the summit in the Uganda Premier League intensifies on Friday as Kitara FC travel to Bombo to face struggling UPDF FC with a chance to temporarily climb to the top of the table.

Kitara head into the fixture sitting second with 39 points, two behind leaders Vipers SC, who will only be in action the following day. A victory for the Hoima-based side would therefore see them move above the Venoms, at least for 24 hours.

The Royals arrive with confidence after securing a 2-0 victory over Entebbe UPPC FC in their previous outing. However, head coach Wasswa Bbosa insists his side must remain cautious against a UPDF side desperate to revive their survival hopes.

“Bombo isn’t an easy place to get results,” Bbosa noted ahead of the clash. “UPDF might be struggling, but we need a strong performance to remain firmly in the title race. We are travelling there focused on collecting the points.”

UPDF currently sit second from bottom with just 12 points and urgently require victories to escape the relegation zone. Despite their difficult campaign, the soldiers will rely on home support at Bombo, a venue historically known for producing unpredictable outcomes.

Recent history, however, favours Kitara. The Hoima side are unbeaten in their last five league meetings with UPDF, winning four and drawing once, and have lost only twice in seven top-flight encounters between the two teams.

Elsewhere on Friday, BUL FC host Calvary FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru. Meanwhile, Lugazi FC welcome NEC FC at Lugazi Stadium in Najjembe as both sides continue their push for consistency in the league campaign.

Under the floodlights later in the evening, KCCA FC face city rivals Police FC at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo in what promises to be one of the standout fixtures of the day.

Action continues on Saturday with URA FC visiting Entebbe UPPC FC at the Fisheries Ground in Bugonga, while Maroons FC entertain Buhimba United Saints FC at Luzira.

Champions Vipers SC will be away to Mbarara City FC at Rwamanja Stadium in Kamwenge, before the weekend’s headline encounter sees traditional rivals SC Villa host Express FC under the lights at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
