Libya Secures AFCON-Winning Coach Aliou Cissé to Lead National Team

In a bold and strategic move, the Libyan Football Federation has entrusted the reins of its national team to celebrated Senegalese coach Aliou Cissé.

The federation made the announcement on Tuesday via Facebook, hailing the accomplished tactician as “Africa’s finest coach.”

Cissé, who masterminded Senegal’s historic Africa Cup of Nations triumph in 2022, will lead Libya’s football ambitions until 2027.

He steps in to replace Nasser Al-Hadhiri, who had only been in charge since September 2024.

While contract specifics remain undisclosed, the federation confirmed that the 48-year-old manager will be officially introduced at a press conference in Tripoli on March 13.

Libya, despite failing to qualify for the upcoming AFCON in Morocco, remains in contention for a spot at the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The Mediterranean Knights currently occupy second place in their qualifying group, and Cissé’s arrival injects fresh hope into their campaign.

His tenure begins with a baptism of fire, as Libya gears up to face Angola in a decisive World Cup qualifier later this month.

With a reputation for instilling discipline, tactical brilliance, and a winning mentality, Cissé’s leadership could be the catalyst Libya needs to re-establish itself on the continental and global stage.

Football enthusiasts across the nation will be eager to see how the decorated coach transforms Libya’s squad and elevates their international standing.
