Lugazi FC finally turned the tide against BUL, grinding out a hard-earned 2–1 victory at Lugazi Stadium, Najjembe, to register their first win under head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa.
It was a significant night for the Sugar Corporation side, who not only secured maximum points but also halted BUL’s recent dominance in this fixture.
The contest began cautiously, with both teams opting for patient build-up play as they searched for control and rhythm. Clear chances were scarce early on, but Lugazi signaled intent in the 15th minute when Freedom Mungudit escaped his marker.
His initial effort was blocked, and although David Bagoole reacted quickest to the loose ball, his follow-up sailed narrowly over the crossbar.
Lugazi’s persistence paid off ten minutes later. Mungudit once again found space in the danger area and made no mistake this time, nodding home from close range to give the hosts a deserved lead.
BUL responded after the interval and managed to restore parity through Abdul Karim Ndugwa, a goal that briefly lifted the tempo of an otherwise cagey encounter.
The hosts, however, continued to push. Mungudit came agonizingly close to grabbing his second of the night when he thundered a shot against the woodwork. Paul Busolo latched onto the rebound but curled his attempt just wide, much to the frustration of the Najjembe faithful.
The decisive moment arrived late in the game. With six minutes remaining, Busolo redeemed himself by calmly steering the ball into the net, sending the home crowd into celebration and sealing a memorable win for Lugazi.
The result lifts Lugazi FC to 11th on the table with 14 points, while BUL drop to ninth with 16 points after 14 Uganda Premier League matches.
