Lugazi FC Name Simon Peter Mugerwa as New Head Coach

Lugazi FC have officially unveiled Simon Peter Mugerwa as their new head coach, handing him a one-year contract as the club seeks to turn around its season in the Uganda Premier League.

Mugerwa takes over the reins following the departure of Steven Bogere and Francis Mugerwa, who were dismissed earlier this week after a disappointing sequence of results left the club struggling near the bottom end of the table.

A holder of a CAF A Coaching Licence, Mugerwa arrives in Lugazi with vast experience across Ugandan football.

He began the ongoing campaign in charge of Mbarara City, although his tenure at the Ankole-based side was brief.

Over the years, he has built an extensive coaching résumé, having previously served at record champions SC Villa, Soltilo Bright Stars and Police FC.

Beyond the league scene, Mugerwa has also played influential roles in the Masaza Cup and the National Schools Championship.

He will be assisted by Ssekweyama, another well-travelled coach who has worked with several top-flight clubs including SC Villa, Express FC, Maroons FC, Wakiso Giants and Mbarara City.

Lugazi FC currently sit 14th on the Uganda Premier League standings with 10 points accumulated from 11 matches, and the new coach will be expected to quickly steady the ship and improve performances.

The new-look technical bench will be thrown straight into action when Lugazi travel to face NEC FC in their next league outing, scheduled for 7 January 2026 at Lugogo.
