Vipers SC will welcome back their talismanic captain, Milton Karisa, as they host Lugazi FC in a crucial StarTimes Uganda Premier League clash at St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, on Thursday night.
Karisa, who has been sidelined for the entire second round due to injury, is set to make his long-awaited return at a time when the Venoms desperately need to bounce back from their disappointing 1-0 loss to SC Villa last weekend.
The Venoms remain top of the league, but their lead has been trimmed to just two points, making this fixture a must-win as they aim to re-establish a five-point cushion before second-placed NEC plays on Friday.
The Venoms will also be boosted by the return of midfielder Karim Watambala, who missed the Villa match due to suspension.
For Lugazi FC, this is another massive test in their impressive debut season.
The newcomers suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat to Maroons in their last outing but have already shown they can compete at this level.
A result against the defending champions would further cement their reputation as a team capable of causing upsets.
Earlier in the day, Wakiso’s Kavumba grounds will be the battleground for a relegation fight as Soltilo Bright Stars take on Police FC.
Bright Stars, second from bottom with only 12 points, are in dire need of a response after last week’s 5-0 drubbing by KCCA.
Police FC, currently 12th with 23 points, have struggled for consistency but will be looking to take full advantage of Bright Stars’ struggles.
The reverse fixture between these two sides ended in a 1-1 draw, making this a contest with everything to fight for.
