The soul of Buganda culture pulsed through the air as the 2025 Bika By’abaganda football and netball tournament officially kicked off on Saturday, May 3rd, with a grand opening ceremony held at the Muteesa II Stadium in Wankulukuku.
The event was elevated by the esteemed presence of Katikkiro (Prime Minister) of Buganda, Owek. Charles Peter Mayiga, who flagged off the tournament in a celebration of tradition, unity, and sportsmanship.
With drums echoing, clan flags waving, and fans chanting in unison, this year’s edition opened with powerful energy and promise.
The day’s action began with the climax of the netball competition, where defending champions Nnyonyi Nnyange soared once again.

In a tightly contested battle against Mmamba Namakaka, Nnyonyi Nnyange displayed composure and tactical discipline, emerging victorious with a 32-27 scoreline, and successfully retaining their crown.
The match was a showcase of speed, agility, and skill proving that the netball competition has grown in both competitiveness and fan engagement.
The evening’s attention shifted to the football pitch where Ngabi Nnyunga, were put to the test in their opening clash against Akasimba.

In a match filled with end-to-end action, both sides shared the spoils with a 1-1 draw, setting an intriguing tone for the rest of the competition.
Ngabi Nnyunga’s flair was met with Akasimba’s resilience, giving fans a taste of what promises to be a thrilling tournament filled with surprises.
The action continues mid-week as the Round of 64 resumes on Wednesday, May 7th, with an exciting lineup of clan matchups set to ignite the next phase of the tournament.
