Police Edge SC Villa to End Winless Run

Police FC 1–0 SC Villa

Police FC returned to winning ways with a narrow but important 1–0 triumph over SC Villa in a Uganda Premier League clash played at the Kira Road Police Arena on Tuesday evening.

The hosts entered the match under pressure after going three consecutive league games without a victory, but an early breakthrough proved enough to secure maximum points.

Police took the lead as early as the seventh minute when Lawrence Tezikya fired home a powerful left-footed strike to send the home supporters into celebration.

Just minutes later, SC Villa nearly responded. Patrick Kakande beat his marker with pace but his strong attempt drifted narrowly wide of the goal.

The visitors thought they had drawn level in the 15th minute through Frank Ssebuufu, but the assistant referee ruled the effort offside in what appeared to be a very close decision.

SC Villa continued to search for an equaliser, yet Police remained resilient at the back. Defender Daniel Jakony produced a brave block to deny Hassan Mayanja, whose curling shot looked destined for the corner.

Police almost doubled their advantage in the 24th minute when Farouk Matovu rose highest to meet David Owori’s delivery, but his header struck the woodwork and bounced away.

Moments later, Bedia Ikamba managed to tap in Tezikya’s cutback, but the referee had already stopped play, denying the hosts a second goal.

After the restart, SC Villa pushed more men forward in pursuit of a leveller. Despite enjoying spells of pressure, the visitors struggled to create clear chances as Police held firm to protect their slim advantage.

The victory lifts Police to fifth place on the table with 35 points, while SC Villa remain fourth on 38 points after 19 matches.
