Police FC and Head Coach Simon Peter Mugerwa Part Ways

Uganda Premier League side Police FC has made a managerial change, parting ways with head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa.

The decision comes in the aftermath of a 3-1 defeat against Bright Stars at Kavumba Recreational Grounds, where the Cops struggled defensively, conceding three goals in under 30 minutes.

In an exclusive interview with Xavi Sports Media, Mugerwa confirmed his departure but refrained from disclosing the reasons behind it.

Despite the sudden split, he expressed appreciation for the opportunity to manage the club, highlighting key achievements during his tenure, including leading Police FC back to the top flight and securing a place in the Uganda Cup quarter-finals.

Sources close to the club have hinted that Matia Lule is a frontrunner to replace Mugerwa.

Under Mugerwa’s guidance, Police FC has had a difficult league campaign, managing only four wins in 22 matches, alongside 11 draws and seven defeats.

With 23 points, the team currently sits in 12th position on the league table, a precarious spot as they aim to maintain their top-flight status.

The club’s management is now tasked with stabilizing the team ahead of crucial fixtures.

The immediate focus will be on their next league match against Mbarara City on Thursday, April 10, at Kavumba Recreational Centre.

The departure of Mugerwa adds to the ongoing managerial shifts seen across the Uganda Premier League this season, as clubs seek solutions to underwhelming performances.
