Police FC climbed to the summit of the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League standings on Wednesday evening after a composed 2–0 victory over Calvary FC at the Police Arena in Kamwokya on Match Day 13.
The law enforcers made it three wins in a row, a result that underlined their rising confidence and title credentials as the season gathers pace.
The contest started cautiously, with both sides prioritising defensive organisation over attacking risk.
Chances were scarce in the opening exchanges, although goalkeepers at either end were called into action.
Calvary shot-stopper Hadji Shukuru stood firm to repel Police pressure as the hosts began to grow into the game, while Police’s Muwanga Mathias was equally alert to keep his line intact heading into the break.
Police eventually found the breakthrough in the 74th minute. Richard Matovu’s well-weighted delivery was calmly finished by Obedi Brian James, who showed great composure to give the hosts a deserved lead.
Moments later, James was forced off after sustaining a head injury, cutting short an influential display.
Calvary attempted a late push for an equaliser, but Police remained disciplined and decisive.
In the 89th minute, Umaru Kasumba put the result beyond doubt, slotting home from Saidi Kyeyune’s assist to seal the three points.
James’ goal proved pivotal, earning him the Man of the Match accolade despite his early exit.

The victory moves Police FC onto 27 points, level at the top with Vipers SC, who have a game in hand and KCCA FC, who were held to a draw by Maroons earlier in the week.
Attention now shifts to a mouth-watering showdown in Kitende on 27 January, where Police will take on Vipers SC.
Calvary, meanwhile, return home to face URA FC at the Mdigo P/S Grounds.
In another Match Day 13 encounter, Ambrose Kigozi once again played the hero for Entebbe UPPC, scoring the lone goal in a hard-fought 1–0 win over UPDF FC.
