Uganda Cranes forward Steven Dese Mukwala has taken the next step in his professional journey after completing a move to Libyan heavyweights Al Nasr Benghazi, ending his stint with Tanzanian giants Simba SC.
The prolific striker, who had entered the final six months of his contract at Simba, has penned a one-and-a-half-year deal with the Benghazi-based club, signaling a bold shift to North African football.
Mukwala departs Simba having made a solid impact in a relatively short spell. Since arriving from Ghana’s Asante Kotoko SC in July 2024, the Ugandan international found the net 13 times in 28 appearances, establishing himself as a reliable attacking option during his time in Tanzania.
The move to Al Nasr Benghazi presents Mukwala with a fresh challenge at one of Libya’s most decorated clubs. Al Nasr are three-time Libyan Premier League champions, with their most recent league triumph coming in 2024.
The club is also well-known on the continental stage, having famously knocked out Uganda’s Proline FC in the 2019/20 CAF Confederation Cup.
Al Nasr play their home matches at the iconic Martyrs of February Stadium in Benghazi, a venue renowned for its passionate atmosphere and strong home support.
Mukwala will not be the only Ugandan plying his trade in Libya. The Libyan Premier League also features former Vipers SC and Express FC striker Erick Kambale, who currently turns out for Al Sadaqa SC, highlighting the growing Ugandan footprint in the league.
The move adds another chapter to Mukwala’s well-traveled career, which has seen him feature for Edgar’s Youth, Vipers SC, Maroons FC, URA FC, Asante Kotoko, and now Simba SC, alongside his continued involvement with the Uganda Cranes.
