The Uganda U-17 Men’s National Team has etched its name in history by securing a place at the 2025 FIFA U-17 World Cup set to take place in Qatar.
This marks the first time a Ugandan national side has reached a global FIFA competition, a milestone achievement for the East African nation.
In a thrilling decider held on Saturday evening at the El Abdi Stadium in El Jadida, Morocco, the young Ugandan team staged an impressive comeback to edge The Gambia 2-1.

Despite falling behind just moments after kickoff when Njundu Kanyi struck early for The Gambia, the Cubs showed resilience and determination.
James Bogere was the star of the show, leveling matters in the 13th minute before completing his double just 20 minutes later. His efforts turned the tide and gave Uganda the advantage heading into halftime, a lead they would protect until the final whistle.

While Uganda had a shaky run in the ongoing AFCON U-17 tournament and didn’t progress beyond the initial phase, their third-place finish in Group A handed them a rare second opportunity via the playoffs, an opportunity they seized with both hands.
Uganda now joins an elite list of nations heading to the global stage, with CAF fielding up to ten representatives at the World Cup.
Other qualified teams include Morocco, Zambia, Burkina Faso, South Africa, Tunisia, Senegal, Ivory Coast, and Mali.
