The long and winding road to the 2025/26 Stanbic Uganda Cup has finally reached its most anticipated phase, with the country’s football heavyweights officially stepping into the competition at the Round of 64 stage.
After months of preliminary action involving non-league and lower division sides, the tournament now takes proper shape as top-flight clubs begin their quest for knockout glory.
FUFA confirmed that an impressive 333 teams registered for the 52nd edition of Uganda’s most prestigious domestic cup competition.
The Round of 64 draw was conducted on Wednesday at the Protea Hotel in Kampala, with former Express and KCCA midfielder Umar Ssenoga entrusted with the task of pairing the teams.
Defending champions Vipers SC will kick off their title defence away from home, travelling to Lira to face Northern Regional League outfit Northern Gateway FC.
The Venoms are targeting a fifth Uganda Cup crown, having beaten KCCA FC 2-0 in last season’s final at FUFA Stadium, Kadiba.
Joint record winners and last year’s finalists KCCA FC have been handed a tricky trip to Masindi, where they will face Kitara Regional League side St. George Masindi FC.
Meanwhile, 16-time league champions SC Villa will embark on a long journey to Eastern Uganda to take on fifth-division side Pallisa Hospital FC in Pallisa District.
Elsewhere, Express FC travel north to meet Pakwach Young Stars, URA FC face Patongo United, Police FC are away to Mairye United, and NEC FC will contest Mabira Town Council FC.
BUL FC make the trip to Kotido to face Agape United, while Kitara FC visit Obule Earth Quake. Maroons FC have been drawn against Paidha United SC, Wakiso Giants face Mutolere SC, and Lugazi FC take on Kisugu United FC.
The Round of 64 fixtures will be played between 4th and 10th February. At this stage of the competition, ties will be decided over a single match, with penalty shootouts used to separate the teams should scores remain level after normal time.
