The Uganda Sports Press Association (USPA) has strongly objected to recent remarks made by FUFA President Moses Magogo regarding sports journalists.
The association expressed deep concern over Magogo’s assertions, which they believe undermine the integrity of media professionals covering Ugandan football.
Magogo recently dismissed concerns raised by journalists about matchday ticket prices, arguing that those criticizing the pricing structure gain free access to Namboole Stadium on game days.
He further alleged that a small group of around ten individuals is being financially motivated to position themselves as advocates of fairness under the guise of journalism.
In response, USPA issued a statement describing Magogo’s comments as both disrespectful and detrimental to the crucial relationship between FUFA and the media.
The association emphasized that journalists play an essential role in informing the public, celebrating sporting milestones, and ensuring accountability within the sports sector.
“Disrespecting the media fraternity only serves to create unnecessary friction and hampers progress in the development of Ugandan football,” USPA stated. The association reiterated the need for mutual cooperation between FUFA and journalists, stressing that constructive engagement is key to the advancement of the sport.
USPA has initiated discussions with FUFA leadership to address the matter and seeks an amicable resolution to maintain a professional and collaborative environment. The association remains committed to upholding journalistic ethics and ensuring that sports reporting in Uganda continues to thrive without undue interference or intimidation.
