Villa Seek to Keep Title Chase Alive Against Lugazi

SC Villa will be under serious pressure to deliver when they welcome Lugazi to the FUFA Stadium, Kadiba on Saturday night, knowing any further slip could effectively derail their title chase.

The Jogoos sit seven points adrift of the league leaders and have little margin for error as the first round edges closer to its conclusion. Victory against Lugazi is non-negotiable if their championship ambitions are to remain realistic.

Villa head into the encounter in buoyant mood following a ruthless 6-1 demolition of Mbarara City on Wednesday, a result that underlined their attacking threat. Kadiba has also been a fortress for the record champions this season, with no defeats registered at the venue so far.

Forwards Hassan Mubiru and Frank Ssebuufu stole the headlines in midweek with scintillating performances and will once again shoulder the responsibility of delivering goals under the guidance of Serbian tactician Zeljko Kovacevic.

Standing in their way is a Lugazi side fresh from a morale-boosting 2-1 victory over BUL, a result that marked head coach Simon Peter Mugerwa’s first win since taking charge.
