Vipers SC Climb to UPL Summit After 2–0 Victory Over Mbarara City

Vipers SC moved to the top of the Uganda Premier League table following a convincing 2–0 win over Mbarara City under the floodlights of St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende.

The Venoms welcomed back Allan Okello and Hillary Mukundane to the starting XI after the duo returned from Uganda Cranes AFCON duties in Morocco, and the pair added steel and creativity as Vipers maximised home advantage.

Allan Okello marked his return in style, opening the scoring just five minutes before the halftime break. Referee Diana Murungi, recently awarded a 2026 FIFA badge, pointed to the spot after Mbarara City goalkeeper Emuron Fahad brought down skipper Milton Karisa inside the box. Okello stepped up and calmly dispatched the penalty to give the hosts a deserved lead.

Vipers wasted no time after the restart to extend their advantage. Five minutes into the second half, Abdul Karim Watambala capitalised on a costly error from goalkeeper Emuron, doubling the Venoms’ lead and effectively putting the contest beyond the Ankole Lions.

The result lifts Vipers SC to the summit of the Uganda Premier League standings with 27 points from 11 matches, one point clear of second-placed KCCA FC, who suffered a defeat to Police FC.

For Mbarara City, the loss leaves them languishing in the relegation zone with just 10 points, increasing pressure as the season progresses.

Vipers will now turn their attention to maintaining their momentum as the title race begins to take shape, while Mbarara City face a crucial battle to climb out of danger.
