Vipers Strengthen Grip on UPL Summit with Hard-Fought Win Over Police

Vipers SC tightened their hold on the top spot in the Uganda Premier League following a slender 1-0 triumph against Police FC at Kavumba Recreation Grounds on Thursday evening.

A decisive second-half goal from Yunus Sentamu proved to be the difference, securing another crucial three points for the Venoms, who have now completed a league double over the Cops.

Sentamu, continuing his impressive form, capitalized on an exquisite delivery from Allan Okello, calmly slotting home just moments after the interval to break the deadlock.

The win lifts Vipers to 46 points, widening the gap to six over second-placed NEC, who have an opportunity to respond when they visit Wakiso Giants on Friday.

Following their narrow success against Mbarara City in the previous outing, Vipers once again demonstrated resilience and composure in a challenging away fixture.

The opening 45 minutes saw Police FC put up a stern resistance, denying the visitors any clear-cut opportunities. However, the Venoms emerged from the break with renewed intensity, and their persistence paid off early in the second half when Sentamu converted Okello’s well-weighted pass.

Vipers could have added to their tally, but missed chances from Okello, Mulongo, and Watambala kept the scoreline modest.

Despite late attempts to salvage a result, the hosts found it difficult to penetrate a well-drilled Vipers defense, leaving them stuck on 20 points in 13th place and in danger of being dragged into the relegation battle.

With another vital victory in the bag, Vipers will look to maintain momentum in their upcoming home fixture against Wakiso Giants.
