Waiswa Nets Debut Goal as URA End Nine-Game Winless Run

URA FC returned to winning ways with a 2-0 victory over Mbarara City FC in the 2025/26 Uganda Premier League on Wednesday evening at Hamz Stadium Nakivubo.

Midfielder Moses Waiswa netted his first goal for the Tax Collectors as they finally snapped a frustrating nine-game winless streak.

URA entered the contest desperate for a breakthrough after going five matches without victory and drawing four others. Despite heavy rain that later disrupted proceedings, the hosts looked determined from the start.

Forward Derrick Kakooza registered the first clear opportunity in the 20th minute, but his effort was comfortably gathered by Mbarara City goalkeeper Derrick Emukule.

The visitors nearly benefited from a defensive mix-up shortly afterwards when defender Hudu Mulikyi almost diverted the ball into his own net. However, URA custodian Crispus Kusiima reacted quickly to avert the danger.

The breakthrough eventually arrived in the 35th minute. Midfielder Dissan Galiwango floated a well-weighted delivery into the area which was neatly converted by Ronald Otti to hand URA the lead.

Seven minutes later the home side doubled their advantage. Emukule brought down Fred Amaku inside the penalty area, prompting the referee to award a spot kick. Waiswa stepped up and calmly slotted the ball past the goalkeeper to mark his debut goal for the club.

The match briefly paused ten minutes into the second half after heavy rainfall left parts of the pitch waterlogged. Following a short delay, play resumed with both teams completing the fixture in difficult conditions.

Mbarara City attempted a late response and almost reduced the deficit in the 85th minute, but Otti cleared the danger to preserve URA’s clean sheet.

The result moves URA up to 12th place on 18 points, while Mbarara City remain 14th with 15 points after 18 matches.
