Watambala Brace Powers Vipers Past URA to League Summit

Vipers SC underlined their title credentials with a commanding 3-0 away triumph over URA FC at Hamz Stadium, Nakivubo, climbing to the summit of the Uganda Premier League standings.

In a fiercely contested encounter, the Venoms showed greater sharpness and efficiency, striking early and maintaining control throughout the contest.

Karim Watambala was the star of the show, netting twice, while Gusto Mulongo added the other to cap a memorable evening for the visitors.

Vipers needed just a minute to draw first blood. Watambala reacted quickest to a loose ball in the penalty area and unleashed a powerful effort that left the URA goalkeeper with no chance.

URA tried to respond, but it was Vipers who looked more threatening going forward.

Usama Arafat nearly extended the lead in the 19th minute, his curling strike crashing off the woodwork as the visitors kept URA pinned back.

Gusto Mulongo doubled the advantage with a composed finish, calmly converting a well-weighted delivery from Arafat to put daylight between the two sides.

Moments later, Watambala completed his brace in emphatic fashion, bending a precise shot into the bottom corner to effectively seal the contest before the break.

The convincing win lifts Vipers to the top of the league table with 30 points as they push for a third consecutive league crown.

For URA, the defeat leaves them languishing in 12th place on 11 points, deepening their struggles in the ongoing campaign.
