Crested Cranes forward Fauzia Najjemba has taken a major step in her professional career after sealing a move to the United States’ National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL), signing a two-year contract with Boston Legacy FC.
The 22-year-old joins the Boston-based outfit following the conclusion of her stint with Russian side FC Dynamo, where her contract recently expired. Boston Legacy have officially confirmed Najjemba’s arrival, with the agreement also including a mutual option to extend her stay beyond the initial two years.
Speaking after the announcement, Najjemba expressed her delight at the new challenge.
“I’m really excited to join Boston Legacy,” she said. “I’m so grateful for the opportunity and can’t wait to give my all for the team. I’m proud to represent Boston and eager to get started.”
Najjemba’s journey has seen her rise through several clubs at home and abroad. She featured for Mukono High School and Isra Soccer Academy before making her mark with Kampala Queens in the Uganda Women’s Super League.
Her growing reputation earned her a move to Kazakhstan giants BIIK Kazygurt, and later to FC Dynamo in 2023.
Her switch to the NWSL further underlines the increasing presence of Ugandan talent on the global women’s football stage.
Najjemba becomes only the second Ugandan player to sign for an NWSL club, following defender Shadia Nankya, who joined Washington Spirit last year from Egypt’s FC Masar.
Nankya spent the entire previous season on loan at Dallas Trinity FC in the USL Super League.
Founded in 2023, Boston Legacy FC are set to make their debut in the NWSL this year, and the addition of Najjemba adds experience and attacking flair as the club prepares for its maiden campaign in the top tier of women’s football in the United States.
