FUFA Big League – Kigezi Homeboyz Edge Ntungasaze to Clinch The Summit

Kigezi Homeboyz climbed to the top of the FUFA Big League standings following a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Ntungasaze FC on Sunday, March 8, at Kavumba Recreation Ground.

The encounter was billed as a crucial battle in the promotion race, with Ntungasaze starting the day at the summit. However, the visitors produced a disciplined display to walk away with maximum points.

The decisive moment arrived at the hour mark when Dominic Abonga struck the only goal of the contest, calmly finding the back of the net to hand Kigezi Homeboyz a vital victory on the road.

The result sees the “Gorillas” move to the top of the table with 32 points collected from 18 matches.

They now hold a two-point advantage over Blacks Power FC, who sit second with 30 points, while Ntungasaze drop behind after surrendering the lead.

Blacks Power’s slip in form has played a role in the shift at the summit. Over the weekend, they were held to a goalless stalemate by Iganga United FC, extending their winless run to four matches. During that stretch, they have managed two draws and suffered two defeats, a sequence that has ultimately cost them their place at the top.

Elsewhere across the league, Kaaro Karungi FC secured a narrow 1-0 triumph over Young Elephants FC, while Kataka FC also registered a 1-0 victory against Onduparaka FC.

In another fixture, Bunyaruguru United FC were forced to settle for a draw at home by Soltilo Bright Stars FC.

Saturday’s action also delivered a surprise result as CATDA FC defeated Paidha Black Angels FC 2-1, dealing a blow to Paidha’s ambitions of pushing for promotion while boosting CATDA’s fight to avoid relegation.

The championship will resume on March 15 with eight fixtures scheduled. Kigezi Homeboyz will host Bunyaruguru United in a much-anticipated western derby, Blacks Power will welcome CATDA FC, and Ntungasaze will be on the road against Young Elephants as the race for promotion intensifies.
