Incumbent president Omar Ahmed Hussein is on the brink of securing another term at the helm of Sports Club Villa after emerging as the only aspirant to return completed nomination forms ahead of the deadline.
According to the club’s Electoral Commission, Hussein was the sole candidate to submit duly filled nomination papers before the cutoff on Saturday, March 7, 2026, despite several individuals initially expressing interest in the top seat.
Speaking in a public statement, Electoral Commission chairperson Brian Kajubi confirmed that only one candidate fulfilled the required procedures.
“By closure of the submission deadline (7th March 2026), only one candidate Mr Omar Ahmed Hussein returned and submitted duly completed nomination forms and fulfilled all the required conditions. In line with the Sports Club Villa electoral guidelines, the Electoral Commission has forwarded Mr. Omar’s name and accompanying documents for vetting and further processing,” Kajubi stated.

During the nomination window, five aspirants had picked up forms signalling interest in leading the Jogoos. These included Meywa Farouq, Dennis Ssebuggwawo Mbidde, Simeon Kawuma Bulezi, and Joseph Muguluma Mbazzi, alongside Hussein.
Kajubi further revealed that Muguluma had collected the nomination forms through an agent at the club secretariat.
Following the submission stage, the documents will now be scrutinized by the club’s trustees. The successful candidate is expected to be officially confirmed by March 10, 2026, while the ongoing registration of fans is scheduled to conclude on March 15.
Earlier on Saturday, however, Muguluma, Meywa and Mbidde petitioned the national football governing body Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA), protesting what they described as an excessively high non-refundable nomination fee of UGX 100 million.
Their concerns came amid mounting dissatisfaction among sections of Villa supporters regarding the electoral process.
On Friday, a group of fans staged a peaceful demonstration at FUFA House while wearing club jerseys and holding placards to protest what they termed an unfair election structure.
Police later dispersed the gathering using tear gas, leading to the arrest of about 15 supporters.
Despite the controversy, the elective congress is still scheduled for March 22, 2026.
Hussein has been at the helm of Sports Club Villa since November 2021 and now looks set to extend his leadership into another four-year term from 2026 to 2030.
Founded in 1975, the Jogoos remain one of the most successful football clubs in the country, boasting a record 17 Uganda Premier League titles.
The club has also lifted nine Uganda Cup trophies and three CECAFA Club Championship crowns.
