Missing Coach Mike Mutebi Discovered in Kisubi Banana Plantation

There was relief across the football community after former Uganda Cranes and KCCA FC head coach Mike Mutebi was found alive on Monday evening following nearly two days of uncertainty over his whereabouts.

Mutebi, who had reportedly been missing since Saturday evening, was discovered in a banana plantation in Kisubi, close to St. Mary’s College Kisubi (SMACK). His discovery brought relief to the sports fraternity that had been gripped with worry during the search.

According to the Uganda Police Force, the veteran tactician was located on Monday evening after spending more than 40 hours outdoors.

He was immediately rushed to Lady Consolata Hospital where doctors admitted him for medical observation.

Family members were informed about the development and quickly arrived at the hospital where Mutebi is currently receiving treatment.

Sources close to the coach revealed that he appeared weak, hungry, and unable to speak clearly when he was found after the long hours in the cold.

However, preliminary medical examinations indicated that his vital organs were functioning normally.

“We thank all the people who helped in the quest for the coach. He is alive and will continue to be monitored closely,” said Moba, a caretaker, while speaking to Kawowo Sports at the hospital.

Mutebi had last been seen attending a Catholic Church retreat for elderly participants at Kisubi Beach in Katabi Town Council on Saturday, March 7.

Concern grew when he failed to rejoin the group as they prepared to return to Kampala, prompting Moba to raise the alarm and initiate a search.

A revered figure in Ugandan football, Mutebi has built a strong legacy through his work with clubs including SC Villa, KCCA FC, Maroons FC and Rwanda’s AS Kigali.

He also previously served the national team, Uganda Cranes, alongside Frank Anyau.
