FUFA Women Super League leaders changed hands on Sunday as Kawempe Muslim Ladies FC claimed a deserved 2-0 victory over She Corporate FC at Valley Ground.
Goals from Jovia Nakagolo and Kevin Nanyunja ensured the hosts collected maximum points and climbed to the top of the standings.
The match had a delayed start after a heavy downpour left the playing surface temporarily unplayable, with the weather also keeping some supporters away from the anticipated clash.
Despite the conditions, the visitors began brightly and nearly grabbed an early opener when Jesca Namaganda struck the woodwork.
Kawempe Muslim responded quickly and broke the deadlock in the ninth minute through Nakagolo. The forward capitalised on confusion between She Corporate’s goalkeeper and defender before calmly finishing to give the hosts the advantage.
She Corporate continued pushing for a response before the break, with Sumaya Komuntale coming close, but her attempt narrowly drifted off target.
Early in the second half, Kawempe nearly gifted their opponents a way back into the contest when defender Rebecca Nakato forced a sharp save from her own goalkeeper Saidat Namwanje while attempting to deal with a dangerous situation.
The visitors’ task became more difficult in the 78th minute after goalkeeper Molly Naava was shown a red card for handling the ball outside her penalty area.
With the numerical advantage, Kawempe sealed the result four minutes from time when Nanyunja produced a clinical finish to double the lead and spark celebrations among the home supporters.
The win moves Kawempe Muslim to the summit of the league table with 36 points, edging She Corporate into second place on 35 after the latest round of fixtures.
