Stanbic Uganda Cup: Vipers, Kitara Target Quarterfinal Qualification

The race for quarterfinal places in the Stanbic Uganda Cup continues this Wednesday, March 18, 2026, with holders Vipers SC and Kitara FC both hosting crucial Round of 16 encounters on home soil.

At Royal Park Butema, Kitara will face Bunyaruguru in an afternoon kickoff, as the Hoima-based side looks to build on its strong cup run.

The former champions progressed from the previous round after edging fellow top-flight outfit Entebbe UPPC and will be eager to make home advantage count once again.

Later in the evening, all eyes turn to St. Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, where Vipers SC take on Iganga United under the floodlights.

The Venoms come into the tie brimming with confidence after a dominant 6-0 demolition of Pajule Lions in the previous round, a result that underlined their intent to defend the trophy.

Vipers, who currently hold both the Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup titles, remain firmly on course for another domestic double.

Key attacking figures Usama Arafat and Karim Watambala are expected to play pivotal roles as the hosts seek to continue their impressive scoring streak.

Both Vipers and Kitara head into their respective fixtures as favourites against lower-division opposition, but the knockout nature of the competition leaves little room for complacency.

Elsewhere, Tuesday’s action saw KCCA FC and NEC FC safely progress to the quarterfinals after convincing victories over Lugazi FC and Onduparaka, respectively. They are joined by FUFA Big League side Happy Boyz Kagaba, who pulled off a spirited performance to book their place among the final eight.
