KCCA FC climbed to the summit of the Uganda Premier League table after grinding out a spirited 2-1 triumph over BUL FC at the FUFA Technical Centre in Njeru on Sunday.
Goals from Sammy Ssebaduka and Alex Yiga overturned an early setback as George Kasonko’s opener proved insufficient for the hosts.
The visitors survived an early scare when Herbert Achayi launched a fierce effort that skimmed over the crossbar following a half-cleared KCCA set piece.
BUL continued to threaten, and Nicholas Mwere’s lofted delivery found Karim Ndugwa, whose header rattled the upright before goalkeeper Anthony Emojong pounced on the loose ball.
BUL eventually made their pressure count in the 38th minute. After KCCA failed to deal with a scramble inside the box, Kasonko calmly tucked the ball in from close range to hand the hosts a deserved lead.
KCCA nearly restored parity before the break, but Emmanuel Anyama squandered a golden opportunity from point-blank range after being picked out by Hassan Muhamud.
The tide shifted in the second half. Nine minutes after the restart, Ssebaduka pounced on a loose ball after goalkeeper Thomas Ikara failed to hold onto Lazaro Bwambale’s well-curled cross, slotting home the equalizer with precision.
With the match appearing destined for a stalemate, Yiga delivered the decisive blow late in the contest.
His composed finish sealed all three points for the Kampala outfit, propelling them to 20 points from nine outings.
The result leaves BUL positioned 11th on the table with 10 points as their inconsistent run continues.
